Ministry of Interior confirms an ambulance bomb was used in Saturday’s explosion that rocked the city.

Officials have confirmed at least 95 people have been killed and 158 wounded in Saturday’s deadly ambulance bombing in Kabul city.

The explosive laden ambulance was detonated between two checkpoints outside the old Ministry of Interior building close to Sedarat Square, close to well known Chicken Street.

Officials said most of the casualties are civilians.

Public healthy ministry spokesman Mohammad Ismayeel Kawosi confirmed the casualty figures and said the wounded have been taken to different hospitals across the city.

Soon after the wounded started arriving at hospital Kabul’s key Emergency Hospital said it was filled to capacity and could not take in any more wounded.

The hospital’s coordinator Dejan Panic, meanwhile took to twitter and said "it’s a massacre". The hospital is run by an Italian NGO.

The explosion ripped through Kabul shortly before 1pm on Saturday afternoon and shook building kilometers away.

A huge plume of smoke could also be seen rising above the city.

This bombing is the latest in a string of deadly attacks across Afghanistan in the past week, including the deadly 17-hour siege last Saturday on the Intercontinental Hotel and the attack on the Save The Children organization in Jalalabad, Nangarhar among others.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s bombing in Kabul city.
